Very good performance in wet machining
Anyone who wants to manufacture high-quality sheet metal parts cost-effectively must continuously work on their processes and modernize production equipment. This applies in particular to post-processing steps such as primary deburring, edge rounding, and surface finishing. With a WEBER grinding and deburring machine for wet processing, GEWA Blechtechnik GmbH has created the necessary machinery for this purpose. When it comes to tools and abrasives, the Austrian company relies on the expertise of boeck GmbH from Leipheim and also receives comprehensive process-chain consulting for sheet metal deburring.
Whether angular, round or curved, large series, small series or individual parts, from simple sheet metal blanks to complete housings – GEWA Blechtechnik GmbH is one of the leading contract manufacturers in the Austrian metal industry, not least thanks to its wide range of production capabilities. At its site in Ried im Traunkreis, the sheet metal specialists produce on an area of 5,000 m² with around 65 employees, mainly for customers in the electronics industry as well as mechanical and vehicle engineering. To meet the high quality standards of these industries, the company regularly invests in its production facilities and relies on state-of-the-art technology.

Collaboration of experts for optimal results
For deburring, edge rounding and surface finishing of sheet metal parts, GEWA uses a WEBER metal grinding machine from the NLC series. “Thanks to the machine’s wet grinding technology, we can easily and safely process steel, stainless steel and aluminum on the same system. Even oily parts are no problem,” says Walter Zwicklhuber, Managing Director of GEWA Blechtechnik GmbH. “For long tool life and good results, especially in wet processing, high-quality tools are essential. boeck GmbH is a competent partner across the entire process chain. Their consulting goes far beyond the selection of abrasives. They also support us in process optimization. For example, machine and tool parameters such as cutting speeds and feed rates are recommended and tested together.”
boeck GmbH can draw on many years of experience and expertise. The expert team led by engineers Marc and Jochen Böck develops and produces customized tool solutions for sheet metal deburring with dedication and passion – from slag removal and pre-grinding through deburring, edge rounding and oxide removal to surface finishing. The tools are manufactured on in-house developed machines with a high degree of automation. Structured processes in both production and warehousing ensure high quality and fast delivery of the tools.
“GEWA operates a state-of-the-art WEBER grinding and deburring machine. With our rollers specifically developed for wet grinding and deburring machines, we aim to optimize GEWA’s processes in terms of cost, quality and time,” says Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Dipl.-Kfm. (FH) Marc Böck, CEO of boeck GmbH.
Ahead in wet processing
Walter Zwicklhuber: “The deburring rollers from boeck show very good performance – especially in wet processing. That was particularly important to us. Compared to other tools, we achieve higher material removal rates and longer tool life. In addition, they offer a very good price-performance ratio.” This performance is enabled by a novel bristle material, which is laser-cut on a specially developed machine by boeck. Thanks to the special cuts of the lamellae, the edges are sealed so that no water can penetrate into the lamellae. In addition, the high density of the abrasive fabric and the complete wear of the lamellae down to the core diameter also contribute to the long service life of the tools.
Due to the non-contact laser cutting process, the individual lamellae also do not lose any abrasive grains from the abrasive fabric, as can happen with punching, for example. Together with the arrangement of the abrasive fabric lamellae in the grinding or deburring direction, this results in stronger edge rounding. Another quality feature: the deburring rollers are manufactured in one piece without segmentation, making them very stable. The balancing grade G 6.3 ensures smooth running.
GEWA uses deburring rollers with a diameter of 250 mm, a width of 260 mm, and a mounting bore specifically designed for use on WEBER deburring machines. Depending on the workpiece and the desired deburring and edge-rounding result, boeck offers different abrasive fabric types in its portfolio: the “Brown Edition” is a universal solution for all sheet metal types. The “Grey Edition” is suitable for rounding edges on components made of aluminum and plastic. The “Purple Edition” provides very high material removal rates and strong edge rounding.
Marc Böck: “For different requirements, we have also developed our own slot patterns. Depending on the slot design, we achieve higher contact pressure and longer tool life. We also offer suitable solutions for edge rounding of small cut-outs and holes, or for a less aggressive grinding result.”

Available within a very short time
Not only for edge rounding, but also for upstream and downstream process steps, GEWA’s experts rely on boeck’s know-how. For primary burr removal, GEWA uses abrasive belts from the Leipheim-based company in various qualities and grit sizes. “Which abrasive belt is suitable for the process depends on the desired material removal rate and the material being processed. boeck always has the right solution at hand and can supply us with the required belts from stock within a very short time,” says Tobias Panhuber, Purchasing Manager at GEWA Blechtechnik GmbH.
In addition to different grit sizes, users can choose between various abrasive types for the abrasive belts. Whether for universal use or an aggressive yet cool grinding action, for a fine surface finish with high cutting performance, or for high material removal with low processing temperature, long tool life and good surface quality – there is a suitable solution for every requirement.
