Boeck visits real sheet metal workers: RK Metalltechnik

This time, Marc Böck visits RK Metalltechnik. Owner Reinhard Krumpholz is the fourth generation to run the company. The metal construction firm was founded in 1930 by his great-grandfather Josef Krumpholz and initially focused on the production of conveyor and special chains. We observed how Böck's tools are used.

Complex workpieces from Austria
Based in Baden near Vienna, RK Metalltechnik supplies metalworkers, plant engineers, special-purpose machine manufacturers, and system producers within a 30-kilometer radius. Their production focus is on manufacturing numerous complex components in small batches, guaranteeing the transformation of workpieces from 3D model to finished product within five days. This is made possible by a proprietary workflow and in-house developed software.
The relationship between boeck and RK Metalltechnik has existed for a year and a half. Krumpholz acquired a Weber TTSC 1100 deburring machine at that time and was then faced with the issue of procuring abrasives. This is how he first came into contact with boeck's tools. His Weber machine uses pre-grinding belts, deburring rollers and deburring discs, as well as abrasive fleece for surface finishing.

Abrasive belts for the beginning and end of the deburring process
Pre-grinding belts are used especially for removing primary burrs from sheet metal parts, primarily in grits 80 and 120. Boeck offers a choice of four different editions. The Brown edition is the all-round tool, universally applicable and, in a correspondingly fine grit, also ideal for final grinding. The Blue edition features a zirconia alumina abrasive grain and offers high material removal rates. The Red edition is an improvement over the Blue version: even higher material removal rates and high wear resistance. Finally, the Grey edition: with its silicon carbide grain, a glossy surface finish can be achieved.
Abrasive fleece belts, available in grits from 80 to 400, are used for finishing sanding. Depending on the desired effect, they can be used to smooth or satin-finish the surface. These fleeces are typically applied mechanically in roller or belt form.
