Industrial tools for the
edge and surface finishing
- Sheet Metal, Wood Processing and Machining
Edge and surface finishing includes all process steps required to create defined edge and surface conditions on sheet metal parts, wood components and machined parts. These processes provide the foundation for stable downstream operations, consistent quality and reliable manufacturing results.
Thermal and mechanical cutting processes create slag, primary burrs, secondary burrs and oxide layers. Slag removal, deburring and edge rounding create defined edge conditions for coating, assembly and further processing.
Wood Processing
Variations in material density and grain direction can result in uneven surfaces and raised fibers. Sanding, structuring and edge breaking create smooth surfaces and support consistent coating absorption.
Machining
Milling and turning operations often create burrs on holes, contours and functional edges. Deburring and edge rounding remove these imperfections while creating a consistent transition between the surface and the edge without altering part geometry.
Edge and Surface Finishing throughout the Process Chain
Different materials, manufacturing methods and part requirements create different edge and surface conditions. Slag, burrs, oxide layers, machining marks and raised fibers can affect coating performance, further processing, appearance, tactile properties and process stability.
boeck industrial tools are designed for specific process requirements to create reproducible edge and surface conditions. Processing follows clearly defined manufacturing steps, from pre-processing to final surface finishing.
Each process step builds on the previous one. Slag removal creates the foundation for consistent material removal during pre-grinding. Deburring removes primary and secondary burrs, while edge rounding creates a reproducible transition between the surface and the edge. Oxide removal and surface finishing prepare components for stable coating processes and defined surface characteristics.
Industrial Tools for Sheet Metal Edge and Surface Finishing
Slag Removal, Pre-Grinding, Deburring, Edge Rounding, Oxide Removal and Surface Finishing
Thermal and mechanical cutting processes create slag, primary burrs, secondary burrs and oxide layers on sheet metal components. These conditions affect coating performance, further processing and process stability.
Edge and surface finishing follows a structured process chain. Slag is removed to create a uniform starting condition. Pre-grinding reduces surface irregularities and prepares the component for controlled material removal.
Deburring removes primary and secondary burrs, while edge rounding creates a reproducible, radius-like transition between the surface and the edge. Oxide removal ensures clean metallic cut edges before surface finishing creates defined surface characteristics.
The result is a reproducible edge and surface condition with consistent coating absorption, reliable coating adhesion, reduced rework and stable downstream processes.
Industrial Tools for Wood Surface Finishing
Sanding, Structuring, Edge Breaking, Intermediate Sanding and Edge Band Polishing
Sawing, milling and other woodworking processes create machining marks, raised fibers and variations in surface structure. Material density and grain direction additionally influence coating absorption, appearance and tactile quality.
During sanding, surfaces are leveled and machining marks are reduced. Structuring enhances the natural grain pattern by selectively removing softer wood components and creating a defined surface texture.
Edge breaking reduces splintering and creates a reproducible, radius-like transition between the surface and the edge. Intermediate sanding removes raised fibers and creates a consistent base for subsequent coating layers.
Edge band polishing reduces processing marks along the edge band. This helps reduce whitening effects and creates a more uniform edge appearance.
The result is a consistent surface condition, reproducible edge quality, uniform coating absorption, reliable coating adhesion and reduced rework.

Industrial Tools for Machining Finishing Operations
Deburring, Edge Rounding and Surface Finishing
Machining operations such as milling and turning can create fine burrs on precision components, holes, contours and functional edges. These imperfections can affect dimensional accuracy, assembly processes and the quality of downstream manufacturing operations.
Deburring removes unwanted material projections and creates defined edge conditions for further processing. Material removal is kept to a minimum to preserve the original component geometry.
Edge rounding creates a reproducible, radius-like transition between the surface and the edge. Surface finishing produces uniform surface characteristics while maintaining dimensional accuracy and part functionality.
The result is a reproducible edge and surface condition, high dimensional accuracy and stable processes in CNC machining, automated manufacturing and serial production.
