Boeck visits real sheet metal workers: Sielaff Automatenbau

Our boss, Jochen Böck, recently visited a real sheet metal fabricator: Sielaff Automatenbau. In the video series "Böck visits real sheet metal fabricators," we want to find out exactly what they do with our tools.

The company, based in Herrieden, is known for its vending machines. Whether for goods, (hot) drinks, cigarettes, or returns, Sielaff produces for a global market. Anyone who's ever been hungry at a train station at night has almost certainly seen one of their machines.

Sielaff offers a large portfolio of machines.

When manufacturing individual parts, the demands on edge rounding are particularly high, as any risk of injury must be eliminated during the final use of the machine. Sielaff owns many different machines for deburring and edge rounding, including a Weber TT1100 with wet separator, a Loewer SwingGrinder, a Loewer MiniSpin, and a Boschert K3.

The Weber machine is equipped for pre-grinding and deburring with a grinding belt for removing the primary burr and 18 Quick115 deburring discs for removing the secondary burr and rounding edges. Since, according to Mr. Schnell, many aluminum workpieces are also processed there, the Grey Edition discs are recommended, as they enable particularly good edge rounding on aluminum and plastic parts. In the past, the surface finish results were unsatisfactory, explained team leader Schnell. However, thanks to the boeck tools, the final products now meet all requirements.

The Loewer SwingGrinder is a swiveling deburring machine with a 165 mm Boeck deburring disc. At Sielaff, it was integrated directly into the stud welding process.

Fully automated manufacturing and sustainable tool use

The Loewer MiniSpin is designed for parts that can only be machined manually. The Boschert K3, on the other hand, is specifically used for sheet metal parts with an electrolytically galvanized coating. This coating must not be damaged or removed under any circumstances, as it later serves as the base for the powder coating. To solve this problem, the system was specially modified. A vertical mounting of the abrasives and an adjustable speed prevent the coating from being affected during rounding. For this purpose, boeck grinding stars and flap wheels are used.

Furthermore, if the deburring discs are heavily worn, they are not simply thrown away, but continue to be used for manual work.

The entire production process is largely fully automated. Even from the warehouse, the sheet metal automatically moves to the individual processing steps. In a way, there are parallels to our own operations. At boeck, too, there is a constant effort to optimize and further develop the level of automation in all work processes. Because of these similarities, the relationship with Sielaff is very friendly and goal-oriented.
